Sightseeing spots in Miyajima

The Island of the Gods is full of wonders. If you go on a trip to Japan, you can’t miss this must-see place.
Let us tell you what are the best things to do in Miyajima.
floating gates of Miyajima
The floating Torii gate
The symbol of Miyajima Island (and perhaps the whole of Japan) stands in the sea with its 18 m high. One of the best photo spots at any time of the day and night.
Walk around the great floating torii gate at low tide and admire it at high tide. It changes every 6 hours. To organize your day trip, you can check the timetable at the entrance of Itsukushima Shrine.
Itsukushima Shrine
Walk inside the main shinto shrine of Hiroshima prefecture. It is one of the most original in Japan, as it floats on water. At the end of the pontoon, you will find an incredible view of the red torii gate before the mountains.
We recommend crossing it at high tide for more magic.
Daisho-in Temple
Daisho-in is not like the temples you have experienced throughout Japan.
Located between Itsukushima Shrine and the base of Mount Misen, it is a vertical temple that you will visit on different levels. You will be impressed by the thousands of statues of guardians protecting the children.
Mount Misen
Not only Itsukushima shrine is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The forests of Miyajima Island are also.
Explore the island by going to the top of Mount Misen. You can get there by ropeway or by one of the three mountain paths (a 2-hour walk).
The 360° view of the Seto Sea will win you over.
Miyajima’s shopping streets
Have you explored all the wonders of Miyajima Island? It’s time to shop in the boutiques of Omotesando Shotengai and stroll along the beach.
Try Hiroshima’s culinary specialties: oysters and eels for dinner, or momiji manju for a snack. Drink original citrus beers in cafes or sit in a Japanese tea house.
You’ll probably meet a deer on the way!
